Vietnam’s national index of industrial production up 8.34 pct in January-September period

HANOI, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) — Vietnam’s national index of industrial production in the first nine months of this year advanced 8.34 percent year on year, according to the country’s General Statistics Office (GSO).
The processing and manufacturing sector expanded by 9.76 percent.
The electricity production and distribution sector grew by 11.11 percent, and the water supply and waste management sector increased by 9.83 percent, said the office.
A number of key industries gained significant growth during the cited period, including rubber and plastic products; production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs; coke and refined petroleum products.
As of Sept. 1, the number of laborers working for industrial enterprises nationwide marked a month-on-month rise of 1.1 percent and a year-on-year hike of 5.2 percent, according to the GSO. ■
